Inspected
Good news, our house isn't falling down! On Friday an inspector came to give the house a little check up, and things looked pretty good. We have tons of insulation in the attic and an attic fan, new windows, newer roof, new plumbing, no water damage, no termites, nothing is rotting, nothing is falling down, the only thing that needs to be replaced if the breaker panel. Which is kind of a big deal because it can miss surges and catch on fire, so that's not good, but it's only about $800 to fix. I would say that is a pretty excellent inspection.
After we got the all clear from the inspector we called the mortgage company and they ordered the appraisal. We should have the official inspection report and the appraisal report by next Monday and then I guess at that point we set our official closing date. I'm not really sure. What I do know is we will probably close the first week of May which is so soon!
We have already started packing and holy cow you would not believe how much junk Chris and I have packed into a 780 square foot 1 bedroom apartment in the last 3 and a half years. So far we have packed 25-30 boxes and we have only packed DVDs, board games, video games/consoles, gift bags/tissue/greeting cards, half a kitchen cabinet, one drawer of a filing cabinet, and maybe half of my vases (we ran out of newspaper). There are already boxes everywhere, we are running out of room to put boxes, we're going to have to start stacking them on the couch and under the dining room table. Our apartment is a mes. We might have to wait until we close to finish packing so we can take a few car loads of boxes to the house to make room for the rest of the boxes.
I do not miss moving. The 3 and a half years we have lived in this apartment was the 3rd longest I've ever lived in one place in my whole life. The longest two increments being 1) living with my parents in their current house from the summer before 7th grade until my sophomore year of college (7 years) and 2) living with my parents from birth until we moved to Atlanta when I was around 4 (4 years). After Atlanta we did quite a bit of moving. We moved back to Florida when I was in kindergarten, to Kentucky when I was in 3rd grade, to Alabama when I was in 6th grade and back to Florida 6 months later. Then I didn't move until I moved to Tampa to go to USF as a sophomore in college, then back to UCF to finish up school. I lived in a different student apartment complex each year, because I'm crazy, I know. Then Chris and I moved in together after I graduated and got married 9 months later. I don't like moving, but dang I am a pro.
I am more than excited to be moving into a house with Christopher. We get to make it our home, finally paint, buy grown up furniture, use real nails to hang pictures not command hooks. We get to imagine our future happening in a concrete place, not just day dreaming about what might happen, somewhere, far away in the future. This is going to be where we come home to for as long as we want. This home will be where we will continue to make memories together, where we will learn what it means to be homeowners, how to fix a toilet, plant a backyard garden, argue over kitchen cabinet finishes, put up Christmas lights for the first time, have a DIY project get wildly out of control, sit on our patio while Lucy plays in the yard. This home will be the home we bring our babies home to. Put a crib together for the first time, stay up all night because we are afraid to leave the baby all alone in their room all the way on the other side of the wall, where we will read books, play with toys, ride bikes, sing songs. It will also be a place to grow together, a place where we will get in fights, we might slam doors, stay in our offices for hours, but then we'll make up, we'll learn, we'll move on.
There are so many firsts we are about to have. I am so grateful we even have this opportunity to buy a house. So many people won't ever get to experience this excitement, fear, joy, anxiety, hope for the future like we are getting to, and while it is stressful, it is amazing. I am so glad to have a partner in Christopher, someone who is so calm and always positive to balance out my fear and anxiety of the unknown and my over the top squealing because I can't contain my excitement any longer.
In the last few months I have realized just how perfect God's timing is. I have learned some very valuable lessons in patience and trusting God for everything. We will provide and I need to remember that. He has such a perfect plan for my life that I can't even imagine it. I am definitely not where I thought I would have been at 26. This isn't what I had planned, but it is what God had planned, and I am grateful that this is where he has brought me.
In 3 weeks I will be a homeowner. Yikes.
