I love mugs! I have a pretty decent collection of mugs, mostly from Starbucks thanks to my brother's employee discount. I use mugs for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc.  like normal people, but I also eat out of mugs. They keep food insulated and have a handle... why wouldn't you eat out of a mug. My favorite things to eat out of a mug are ice cream, soup, and spaghetti.

It really is more fun to eat out of a mug, you should try it.
