Mother's Day

In the last couple of years I have started trying to host something for Mother's Day at least every couple of years. We like hosting parties, we don't have kids and we have the space to host people, so it seemed like a great fit!

We set up both our dining room table (above) and our new to us game table.

We put up a fun banner I got from  Paper Goat Post, and of course lots of flowers and presents to go around

This is our game table with a fun Pioneer Woman table cloth I got from Walmart. Plus, check out those cool garlands on the bookcase! The ones with pink balls is from Target and the tissue paper tassel garland is from The Flair Exchange. I think I might keep all of my garlands and banners up for the rest of the summer. They are all so bright and fun.

Now for the parts of the feast I remembered to document...

I made a couple of special beverages. First, a berry infused water. I put the berries and water in the beverage dispenser the night before so it got all good and berry-y. Second, I made unsweet tea, because that's what my mom likes. I also made simple syrup and had splenda for sweetening the tea. And lemons, always lemons.

I decided to be adventurous (tomatoes are gross) and made this really pretty roasted veggie dish. It has squash, zucchini, yellow onion, grape tomatoes cut in half, garlic, salt, pepper, and olive oil. It was good even though it had poisonous tomatoes.

I also had a green salad with multi color peppers, broccoli, carrots, and tomatoes, ham, green beans, sweet potato casserole, a berry salad, and pineapple and grapes.

And of course, none of the stuff from the oven is in the picture because by the time it was done we were all way too hungry for picture taking.

Ohhhh, I also served cowboy caviar (black bean, corn, peppers, tomato salsa kind of thing) and chips while we waited for all of the food to get done. You don't go hungry in the Hofreiter house.

We even bought a special plant to fancy up the front porch, and it has already died. Oops.

We gave Lucy a special Mother's Day bath on Saturday night and of course she immediately went outside and laid in her dirt pit and tracked mud in. Come on dog!!

Of course, we would never forget to spoil our favorite mama dog, she enjoyed a Mother's Day toy and some special bones.

I prepared a little box of stuff for Molly. A big box she could play with or in, part of a pool noodle and a cardboard tube, a tin with stuff inside that made noise, crayons, bubbles, and of course a plastic chain necklace. She loved the bubbles and played with the chain, took a bite of a crayon and generally had a pretty nice time.

After everyone was fed and all of the presents were opened and the first load of dishes was in the dish washer we hit the hood pool for our first pool day of the year. It was glorious!

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day.
