Homemade Applesauce

One of the final items on our Fall Bucket List was making homemade applesauce. I’ve never made applesauce before, so I looked up a simple recipe on the Pioneer Woman’s website, because I pretty much trust her with anything I plan to eat.

Her recipe was really easy, just five ingredients. Apples, brown sugar, apple juice, lemon juice, and cinnamon.

I happen to have an apple peeler, corer, slicer, because why wouldn’t I have such a gadget right? So I set it to peel only, and peeled six pounds of assorted apples.

Then we cored and cut them into eight sections each.

Add the apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, apple juice, and cinnamon to a large pot over medium heat. Cook the apples until they are soft and start to fall apart when stirred.

Then depending on your texture preference, you can just stir vigorously, mash, or puree with a blender. I used an immersion blender so I didn’t have to transfer the sauce.

Let it cool so you don’t hurt yourself, and then eat and/or store.

Making homemade applesauce was so easy, I can’t believe I haven’t done it a million times. I will definitely be making this again.
