2020: Joy
For the last couple of years I have picked a one word focus for the year. I started one word intentions in 2018 with Simplify, and continued in 2019 with Thrive. The main purpose for these one word intentions is to focus more on being and less on doing.
In 2018, I wanted to simplify my routines, my schedule, my house, and most importantly the clutter in my brain. I wanted to find ways to make each day a little easier and less overwhelming.
In 2019, I wanted more than just survival mode. I wanted to keep things as simple as I could, but add in a little growth. I chose the word thrive becasue I wanted to make choices that helped me step outside my comfort zone and grow. I wanted to do things that might be considered frivolous, just because I could. I wanted to smile and live life while I have it.
This year my one word intention is Joy. I want to continue the work I’ve done the last two years to keep things as simple as I can, grow where I can, and find joy in ordinary things. I want to find the joy in waking up (oof this one will be hard), or in doing chores, or waiting in a line. I want to find joy when I’m overwhelmed, happy, sad, lonely, or excited.
To find joy, I will try not to compare myself to other people, I will practice gratitude, I’ll make space to feel my feelings, and I’ll practice being with myself.
Do you have any intentions, plans, or resolutions for 2020? Leave them in the comments.
