Homemade Tortilla Chips

Surprisingly, my parent’s town has a small Mexican grocery store. My brother and I went in to see what they had and I bought a pack of fresh corn tortillas and a hot sauce for Christopher, because he is a hot sauce maniac. I cut the tortillas into sixths and then fried them for about 90 seconds on each side in vegetable oil at 350 degrees. Then I salted and let them drain on a paper towel lines baking sheet. They tasted halfway between a regular store bought tortilla chip and a Frito. They were really good and super easy. The only thing I wish I had done differently was put my paper towels on top of a cooling rack for better oil drainage. I was changing those paper towels a ton. I’d totally make my own chips again and I highly recommend trying it out. We used the chips for steak nachos, so much deliciousness I could have cried.

Spill and Spell (vintage game find at the town yard sale)

This game didn’t have any instructions in the box so I haven’t played it yet, but as soon as I google it and figure this out, IT’S ON! I love word games. This was basically a dream yard sale find for me. Best $1 I’ve spent in a while.

Driving with the windows down - IN AUGUST

August in Florida is such a disgusting time of year. Temperatures in the 100s, 100% humidity most days, and hurricanes. Driving with the windows down in August in Florida was an emergency situation. Like do you have a spider or a bat in your car? Did your A/C go out and it just happens to not be raining? Are you somehow having the world’s most bizarre stroke that causes you to want to breath soup while driving? It’s just not a thing people do. So the other day when it was in the 70s at lunchtime in August, I rolled my windows down so fast, cranked up Lizzo, and started belting out her Special album. Then my dreams came crashing down around me when a garbage truck pulled in front of me. But at least I got to experience the glory of having the wind blowing through my hair on an August afternoon for a few minutes. Virginia is full of this kind of witchcraft and honestly, I’m here for it.
