2023 Goals

This year, as I learn to rest, I’d like to accomplish a few things, because it can’t be all naps and walking around outside to look at birds. When setting my goals for the year, I wanted to focus on things that will help me rest and recharge.

Rest is a pretty obvious goal seeing as how rest is my word of the year. But I am looking to rest in more ways than just sleep. The internet told me there are nine types of rest, so I’m going to dabble in all of those and see what helps me.

I think finding a new home for Christopher, Lucy, and myself will help with resting and recharging. We have been incredibly fortunate to have our own spaces at my parent’s house, but I miss my bed and my couch and my other clothes and having space to spread out. We have almost all of our lives in a 15x15 room right now, and it’s overwhelming for me to see all of our stuff all at once, every.single.day. I miss empty space.

Exploring new places brings me an indescribable amount of joy. In order of importance: I love my family (including Lucy) and friends and traveling. I love roadside attractions, new cities, new states, new countries. Any of ‘em, gimmie.

I love writing. I mostly write for myself. I like documenting life. I can always go back and read about what we’ve done, where we’ve been, how I felt about it, look at pictures, and laugh at all the things I planned and never got around to. I would like to write in a more professional way though. I don’t really know what I’d like to write more professionally, but something. Getting paid to write is a dream of mine that I’ve had for over a decade, so I guess I should get after it.

Reading is such a relaxing hobby. I think reading will be a good way to rest and recharge this year. In 2022 I had a reading goal of 24 books and didn’t make it (I only read 18), so I’ve adjusted my goal for this year. Now I just need to get a library card in my new town. I love the library.

Well, those are my goals. I hope this inspires you to make reasonable goals. Ain’t nobody got time for grandiose bullshit goals around here. Keep it simple, make it happen.
