Rest - July Update

It’s been a few months since I last updated you on my word of the year, rest, so let’s catch up.

Here’s a recap of the things I want to incorporate each day:

1. Read 2. Drink a cup of coffee 3. Drink three large cups of water 4. Get 8 hours of sleep 5. Meditate

I have been reading more, but definetly not every day. On the days that I do read, I really enjoy it. Like a lot of things for me, I struggle to start activities, but once I am doing it, I’m very happy about it.

There are very few days I don’t drink coffee, so I try to be intentional about enjoying it and not just chugging it. I also sprinkle in special coffees out to make this a little more of a treat some days.

Water is so hard for me. I forget to drink it because of all the coffee and then by the end of the day I am chugging water before bed, which isn’t a great situation to be in. Needless to say, I’m still working on this one.

Getting 8 hours of sleep is so much harder than I thought it would be. I am getting closer to 6-7 hours most nights which is a great improvment from my 3-5 hours before I moved to the woods, so I’ll take it. Progress, not perfection.

I still haven’t gotten back into a great routine with meditation yet, which makes me sad. I do really find meditation helpful, it’s just hard to find a calm quiet space when you have your whole life tucked into one bedroom. I do try to meditate when Christopher is working and I have our room to myself or outside on the porch with headphones, but it’s hard not to get distracted by the traffic, cute animals, or gross bugs.

Did you pick a word of the year this year? How are you doing with it? Let us know in the comments!
