Tulip Picking in Nashville
Last weekend Christopher and I spent the weekend in Nashville to do a little tulip picking at Liberty Grace Farms and eat all the big city foods. Tulips are one of my favorite flowers and I’ve always wanted to go to a tulip farm, so this was a big deal for me.
We started our trip to Nashville with a little coffee taste test pit stop like ya do. We found a town that had a & Brew and a Dutch Bros, so I got an iced hazelnut latte from each to see which one was better.
The latte from Dutch Bros was a little more expensive, like 50 cents more, and sweeter. 7 Brew had more ice and was slightly sweet which I prefer. So Christopher and I both agreed we like 7 Brew better, but if we were somewhere with only a Dutch Bros, we’d totally get it. Lucy was happy that we got her the world’s biggest pup cup at 7 Brew! I only gave her half of the whipped cream and the bone because she is small and that was like 8 full oz of whipped cream. Yikes.
Once we were loaded up with coffee, we headed to Buc-ee’s for a bathroom break and a car wash.
We got to Nashville pretty late, so our adventure continued the next morning.
We started Saturday with a bagel and coffee from Crieve Hall Bagel Co. This charming bagel place had delicious bagels and great coffee. They also have incredible looking cinnamon rolls, but they were sold out when we got there. Nex time!
Next, the big event! Tulip picking! I saw a TikTok video about Liberty Grace Farms and immediately started watching their socials for the opening of the picking season. The farm is beautiful, the tulips are huge, and they smell so good. I didn’t even realize tulips had a scent!
I even found a little hitchhiking ladybug on my dress, but I made sure to leave them at the farm.
After tulip picking we did a little shopping in downtown Franklin, TN. They have a nice shopping district with cute stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and musicians on the sidewalks.
We dropped off the tulips and our shopping spoils at the hotel and checked on little Lucy before heading to dinner at Edessa Restaurant.
We started with Ezme (Turkish Salsa: Tomatoes, red and green peppers, onions, parsley, olive oil, fresh lemon juice, pomegranate molasses, and special spices) and fresh lavash. For our entrees, I got the chicken shish kabob and Christopher had the Doner (sliced lamb) plate. This was such a delightful dinner. Everything was delicious, the staff was attentive without being too much, and the atmosphere felt so fun and joyful somehow.
After dinner, we went to check out an Asian market, popped into Trader Joe’s, and got a little treat at Fox’s Donut Den,
While researching things to eat in Nashville I read about Midnight Breakfast at Monell’s, an all you care to eat, family-style restaurant, and I just couldn’t not go. When in Nashville, right? We were seated with a group of friends in their mid-late twenties who had been to a wedding and then out downtown before hitting up breakfast.
You don’t order, the servers just bring a basket/bowl/plate of all the options and you pass it around the table. We had skillet-fried chicken, bacon, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy, little cute cinnamon rolls, fried apples, grits, corn pudding, apple chutney, roasted potatoes, and pancakes. Coffee, water, and sweet tea are included and served right on the table. The servers were great, the atmosphere was fun, and felt like you were at a big family dinner in a big old house. Chit-chatting with strangers while eating great southern breakfast food at midnight, the perfect ending to an amazing day. It was $18 each and worth every penny.
Sunday morning we had brunch at The Nashville Jam Cafe. They had tons of outside seating, which was perfect! Christopher had the fried green tomato wrap with hashbrown casserole and I had the two egg breakfast with ham and gouda grits. We both had drip coffee and water to drink. I will be dreaming of those grits for at least a month. I miss good brunch places.
After brunch, we went to a Middle Eastern market to get a few supplies for our Persian New Year dinner, and a couple of pieces of baklava for a treat.
We got one last coffee in Nashville at District Coffee, some of the best coffee I’ve had recently, to be honest. Then we started the five-hour drive back to the woods.
We stopped in Knoxville for dinner at Chez Guevara Restaurant. This place is a LEGIT hole in the wall, they don’t even have a sign on the building or the door. I forgot my phone in the car so I don’t have any pictures, but it was great. We sat at the bar and started with a half-order of chili con queso and a house marg for me, then Christopher had the chili burro burrito and I had the fajita quesadilla. It’s in the Trader Joe’s shopping center, which is our closest TJ’s, so I’m sure we’ll be back.
Before leaving Knoxville we got some ice cream at Cruze Farm Dairy. They specialize in soft-serve ice cream, yum! I had the strawberry and Christopher had peanut butter, you could get these two flavors in a swirl, but we were feeling like purists. Both were incredible, The strawberry was a real strawberry flavor, not like strawberry candy flavored. I can’t wait to go back.
Even thought it was a short little weekend trip, we managed to squeeze in a decent amount of fun. We love adventures, and I’m glad we got to go on this one.
