Last time I was at IKEA they had their plain doormats on sale for IKEA family members, so I grabbed a couple to try out a DIY paint job.
I started by taping the pattern around the edge of the doormat with masking tape, and then when it was uneven, Christopher fixed it for me.
I used 4 bottles of inexpensive acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby, two white and two navy.
After about an hour I was starting to get a little pink and Christopher banished me to a shady corner and finished up the blue stripes.
I guess I should have put on sunscreen and maybe worn a shirt with actual sleeves. Oops. Sorry mom.
After a very hot hour standing in the sun sweating to death, we were done.
I really love how our doormat turned out. Now I just have to decide if I want to stencil anything in the middle, like an H or our monogram or hello or just leave it plain. I can't wait to paint the next one! I might even try making a video when I paint the next one. We'll see how that goes.
Happy Crafting!
