13th Wedding Anniversary
THIRTEEN YEARS. We’ve been married for 13 years. HOW? Are we even old enough to have been married that long? Barely. But here we are 13 years in and still having fun, so I thought I’d review a few highlights from the last year.
We spent our 12th anniversary in Southern California and the last thing we ate in CA was this life alteringly good coffee cake. I still think about it. I have a handful of coffee cake recipes saved that I want to try, because eventually I WILL recreate this.
In June we got a new couch. Our first new couch from a furniture store that wasn’t IKEA. It’s so cozy and comfy and we still love it.
In June we went to Springfield, MO to bury my Grandma Marty’s and Grandpa Larry’s ashes and spent time exploring with the family.
We had a great deal of loss in our family this year, we lost my Grandma Marty and Uncle Steve, and Chris’s Mima and Uncle David. Chris made wooden urn boxes for Mima and Uncle David, and my mother in-law burnt the tree in the top of Uncle David’s urn box. It was a hard few months and we continue to feel those losses.
We had a little summer fun, meeting a real life power ranger, trying Taco Bell for the first time in over a decade (other than cinnamon twists), going to an Art event downtown, and playing with kinetic sand.
We set up a little guest nook in our shit room. So far my mom has stayed here a few times and I moved in to this little corner while Chris had Covid, until I caught it from him.
In August Christopher started a new job and I went back to the office. It’s been really fun driving across town to sit in my office alone with the door closed and do all of my work online. It’s a joke. But they better watch us work in person or else it’s not really happening. Right?!
We had a pretty successful Halloween. We love putting out our signs and checking out all the cute costumes during Trick or Treating. It’s one of my favorite holidays.
We celebrated Jacob graduating from UCF (Go Knights, Charge On!) with a family party and petting sloths.
We bought, decorated, undecorated, and moved our very last real Christmas tree outside to the patio, because my allergies finally tried to kill me while it was inside our house. Chris kept the lights on and would plug it in at night so we could see it through the patio doors, but now we’ll be joining the fake tree folks and I am devastated.
We celebrated Lucy’s 12th Gotcha Day. We love this furry beast SO MUCH it doesn’t make sense. We love taking her to get pup cups, and hanging out with her in the backyard while she chases lizards, and snuggling up with her on the couch against her will. She makes life better.
We started going to live shows again this year. We’ve seen The Prom, Ain’t Too Proud, Frozen, Cats, and Post Modern Jukebox.
After reading about Dairy Queen cupcakes online and searching high and low, ok fine we only went to two local DQs, we finally found them in VA while visiting my parents. They were so cute and tasty. They don’t beat a blizzard, but I’d get one again for sure.
And just to be extra matchy we took another trip to California. Over my Spring Break we went to San Francisco, San Jose, Muir Woods, and Napa. It was an amazing week of lovely weather, good food, and our first trip to a Rothy’s store.
In April we both caught Covid. Over two years of masking and vaxxing and hiding at home and it finally got us.
While we were sick, our nieces made us cards and an activity book and my sister in-law set it on our front porch in a gift bag. I feel asleep and didn’t grab them right away and someone had STOLEN THEM OFF OUR PORCH! Why??? There was one card left on the porch and then 2 days later we found the bag and the activity book in the gutter/bushes 4 houses down the street. It was heartbreaking that someone would steal a bag of cards from children. Like take an amazon box or something you can use asshole.
We ended the year with the fanciest pup cup for Lucy we’ve ever seen (soft serve, peanut butter, whipped cream), celebrating love at J+B’s wedding, and our first float of the season with our new friend Duxter the duck.
We celebrated another year of being married with a giant Tomahawk steak, because nothing says love like 40oz of steak on a giant ass bone. Chris recommended eating this Lady and Tramp style, I declined.
Happy 13th Anniversary to us. Watch out world, we’ve got plenty of shenanigans in store for the next 13.
