Happy Sweet Sixteen Lucy
Fourteen years ago today, we fell in love with our furry little soulmate at a Petsmart adoption event. She was in a crate, and as soon as I walked up to her she perked right up. I think it was love at first sniff. She was about two years old when we adopted her, so today we are celebrating her Sweet Sixteen!
When we met her, we gave her some pets, walked her around the grass outside of Petsmart, and fell even deeper in love. Then we went next door to Target where my dog expert Aunt Juli was working, to ask her what she thought. After deciding we needed to take Lucy home, we hauled ass to an ATM to get cash for the adoption fee.
Taking Lucy home was the best day of our lives. She was so excited to be with us, we were so excited to be with her, and 14 years later, we still have so much fun together.
Awww, baby Lucy!
When Lucy was younger she loved to destroy plush toys, as she has aged she has refined her taste in entertainment and now prefers exploring behind and under furniture and playing with her reflection, aka mirror dog. She still loves helping us play board games, begging for food, and dressing up.
Lucy is such a lover dog. She knows when you need snuggles and kisses, and she’s a great cuddle buddy.
Lucy loves going on adventures, and we’ve been lucky enough to take her on a ton of trips!
She also loves food refill day. The first time she ate out of her food box we laughed so hard, and now we make sure to leave it open when we refill it so she can have a few bites.
And you know our girl loves a pup cup.
Lucy hasn’t had a ton of dog friends because of an incident at a dog park a few years after we got her. But she did love hanging out with two of my parent’s dogs, Oakley and Jasper. Lucy and Oakley even looked like siblings, they had the same red and white coloring, so precious.
Lucy and Jasper became pals before my parents moved to Virginia so we could visit, and then we all ended up being roomies when we moved up here in 2022.
Lucy is a Christmas dog through and through and especially loves advent calendars.
For some reason Lucy has always preferred laying tipped over on the floor to dog beds. She still doesn’t even know how to work a dog bed. I mean look at these sad attempts.
Lucy is an avid outdoorswoman. She enjoys digging holes and dirt pits, splashing around in her raincoat, lounging in grass, pointing out prey, frolicking in the leaves, and playing in the snow.
And just like her favorite human, she loves snail mail.
Lucy is such a sweet dog and I am so glad we have had so many bonus years with her. We love her so much.
Happy gotcha day/birthday, Lucy!
