Hey there!

Homemade Refried Beans in the crocpot

I love finding super easy and inexpensive recipes for delicious freezable staples. One of my favorite resources for recipes is 100 Days of Real Food. She has tons of recipes for meals and snacks made with all whole foods, nothing processed. Christopher and I are far from being processed food free, there are so many tasty fake foods that are going to take a lot of time to give up, but we try to cut processed foods often.

Christopher and I love beans, so when I found the recipe for making refried beans in the crocpot I was super excited to try it out. It is so incredibly easy, I can't believe I ever bought a can of refried beans.

Basically, you toss a bag of pinto beans, an onion, garlic, cumin, salt, pepper, a jalapeno, and some water into your crocpot and go to bed. Fish out the onion in the morning and smash 'em up. Done!

Once recipe of these beans makes about 4 - 2 cup pyrex containers of beans, I usually keep one in the fridge and freeze the rest. I've made these beans three times now and the only things I do differently are 1. use a whole jalapeno instead of half and 2. I leave all of the extra liquid in the crocpot and use a hand mixer to "whip" them because I don't have a potato masher.

These refried beans are so good. Go make a batch and have burrito night, you won't be disappointed.
