Today my city woke up to devastating news. There was a mass shooting in the early morning hours.
Now I live in the city with the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. 50 dead, another 50+ injured.
Over 100 families irrevocably altered. A community wounded and grieving.
It happened on the other side of town from where I live, but I know where that nightclub is, I've driven by it several times. Not to mention this happened the night after a singer was shot and killed in the same city after a show. Outside of a lovely theater. On the same road as my favorite tea and sandwich shop.
To say having something like this in your own backyard is terrifying, heartbreaking, disgusting, and numbing all at the same time, would be putting it lightly. I can't even wrap my mind around it. I know it happened and I know where it happened, and yet it feels like it must be somewhere else right? Not here, not in Orlando, the City Beautiful. But it did happen here. at HOME.
Orlando is already out in full force donating blood and helping. To all of the helpers, THANK YOU! To the people who serve our community without question, THANK YOU!
As we move forward from this horrifying event, remember our community, think of others, be kind, offer to help where you can, and know God is with us.
Orlando is Wonderful.
