Natalie & Christopher in Germany

Hey there!

We are Natalie and Christopher. We blog about life in the suburbs of Orlando, FL with no kids and one dog. Thanks for checking in.

Seattle, WA 2020 - Part 2

Seattle, WA 2020 - Part 2

We’re actually going to pick up this adventure with lunch in Arlington, WA, after our trip to The Outback Kangaroo Farm. If you’re just starting this journey check out Seattle Part 1, Everett, WA, and Funko HQ too!

We stopped at Nutty's Junkyard Grill for lunch, and it was such a fun themed burger place. I had the Thunderbird chicken sandwich, Christopher had the big block burger, and we shared an order of fries. The food was great, and if we hadn’t already made plans to stop for pie on the way back into Seattle, we would have tried the shakes here too.

I loved the toilet paper holder in the bathroom, and also it was the beginning of the pandemic, so I did consider tossing one of those rolls in my bag, but I was pretty sure I didn’t have room to pack it in my suitcase. I also really appreciated the penny flooring in the bathroom and bottle cap counter top where the drink station was.

After lunch we got some gas and went through one of the million espresso stands for a little coffee.

Then it was time for PIE! We popped in to Snohomish Pie Company for some Pi Day treats.

It smelled so good in here and it was so hard to choose our pie slices. Looking back we shouldn’t have held back at just two slices. We should have gone with like 4.

We decided on a slice of Marionberry pie and a slice of Tagalongs cream pie.

This pie was amazing and it made Pi Day stuck in a hotel room with nowhere to go and nothing to do a celebration.

When we got back to Seattle the pandemic situation was officially serious business, and things were starting to close, including the hotel restaurant, bar, and our fancy pants lounge. So in an effort to be good humans, we pretty much stayed in our room. Thankfully we had a nice room with a nice view and a balcony.

Our room had two entire walls of windows, so that was lovely. We watched the sunsets, ferries, people walking, and this container ship being pulled in by the tugboats. I love ports, so this was a lot of fun for me.

Not leaving the hotel or having food available at the hotel meant ordering all of our meals on UberEats or Postmates.

Our first dinner was from Ezell's Famous Chicken via food courier, thanks dude. Christopher had the three piece dinner combo with spicy chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn, and I had the small tenders combo with Mac and cheese and baked beans. It was good, but not anything super special. Of course it’s probably better fresh, since it’s fried chicken.

Breakfast the day before we left was from Honest Biscuits. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich, Christopher had biscuit and sausage gravy, and we also got a McGregor Biscuit which has bacon and cheese baked in, yum. And two fresh squeezed orange juices, obvs. This breakfast was good, even though it took FOREVER to get to us. The person delivering our food was on foot, which I didn’t even know was a thing, becasue we live in the suburbs, so it’s not a thing at home. Anyway, it meant this was more like brunch and when it arrived we were super hungry.

Then we went out to get some supplies. We knew we would need to get something to eat for breakfast before leaving for the airport and we really wanted to check out the Amazon Go convenience store. So we headed out. We went to the Amazon 4 Star store, which was pretty neat. It’s an Amazon brick and mortar store with only products rated 4 stars or higher on Amazon. Then we ate a late lunch/early dinner at Shake Shack because it was open and across the street. And last the reason we ventured out, the Amazon Go store.

When you shop at the Amazon Go store, you scan the Amazon Go app when you walk in and then as you pick things up it adds it to your tab, if you put anything back it subtracts it. And it was creepily accurate. Christopher and I both scanned in and whoever picked the thing up was charged for it. It was so cool and also very weird. But it meant we could get some snacks for later since we ate lunch/dinner at a weird time and yogurt and juice and fruit for breakfast the next morning before our flight. When you’re done shopping, you just leave and it charges the credit card you have in your Amazon account. We brought our own shopping bag, and didn’t have to interact with any people to buy our food, which was great considering the situation.

Right next to the Amazon Go store are the Seattle Spheres, part of Amazon’s HQ campus. The spheres have thousands of plants from all over the world and are fascinating to look at from the outside. I was sad that they weren’t open while we were visiting, so hopefully next time we are there we can schedule a tour, because I can only imagine how amazing the inside is.

And that was the end of our trip. It was kind of a sad ending, but I am glad we got to spend that time together doing a few new things before and after Christopher’s work trip. I love when I get to tag along with him, all 4 times, on trips to fun places.

The flight home was particularly weird. We had around 40 people on our plane and that is definitely the fewest people I have ever flown with. It was nice to have the space to spread out, but also kind of freaky.

We got home on March 15th and have been at home since except for grocery runs and a drive thru safari. I hope you’re staying home if you can and are staying safe and well.
