Frozen Pizza Taste Test
I love a taste test, and this time I forced my family to taste frozen pizzas. They were excited, kind of, ok not really.
Our pizza contestants were: Home Run Inn Uncured Pepperoni Classic Pizza, Original Tombstone Pepperoni Pizza, Motor City Pizza Co. Pepperoni, Freschetta Brick Oven Pepperoni, Yachty’s Pizzeria Hot Honey Cheese Pizza (Walmart was out of the pepperoni and this was the sub on my pick up order), and Digiorno Hand-Tossed Pepperoni.
My dad and brother had only tried the Digiorno pizza before this, but Chris and I had tried the Motor City, Freschetta, and Digiorno pizzas before.
There were a few different bake times and temperatures, so that allowed us to stagger our enormous feast of frozen pizzas.
We had our score sheets and started digging into the madness, and then I promptly forgot to take any pictures after this one, Oops. So I’ll let our data paint a picture for you.
The three we didn’t like, we reeeeaaallly didn’t like. None of us finished an entire piece of Tombstone, Home Run, or Yachty’s. They just got worse with each one we tried. They were all trash, don’t waste your money. If you need an inexpensive frozen pizza type food, you can buy a bag of 100 pizza rolls for just under $10 at Walmart.
Of the three favorite pizzas, we thought they were pretty equally good. I think we could have enjoyed the Fraschetta pizza more if we had baked it on a pizza stone to give the crust a little more crunch in the middle. Digiorno is just an overall solid frozen pizza brand, you really can’t go wrong with one of their pizzas, so if you need an emergency pizza stashed away in your freezer, it’s a good option. The only pizza more than one of us got a second slice of, was the Motor City Co. Detroit Style Pepperoni Pizza. None of us particularly prefer deep dish/thick crust, but it had almost a focaccia texture and a nice crispness around the edge, and the sauce actually had a flavor, so it took first place in our taste test. This was an unexpected first place, but the data don’t lie.
