Summer Hygge
My word of the year in 2022 was Hygge, and I still try to pack in the hygge as much as possible. Even though hygge invokes fall and winter feelings, you can absolutely practice hygge when it’s warm.
At its core, hygge is a feeling of togetherness, safety, and contentedness. There are some things that make me feel cozy inside even if I’m sweating my ass off.
Iced Summer Beverages
Nothing tastes more like summer than a cherry limeade from Sonic. It’s the perfect mix of sweet, bubbly, and fruit, perfect for a day at the pool or beach. I also consider lemonade of any variety to be a summer beverage, and if you really want to kick the hygge up a notch, get a bag of lemons and make it yourself.
Eating Outside
If it’s not 100 degrees, eating good food outside with family and friends is a perfect way to spend time during the summer. Make sure to have refreshing fruits, drinks, and cool treats to help combat the heat. Bonus points for a nighttime s’mores roasting over a firepit.
Make Your Own Cool Treats
Summer might not be the season for lava cakes, but homemade ice cream, popsicles, or chilled pies are great options for summer treats. I love using these popsicle bags for homemade ice pops on the go, and you can find cute-shaped popsicle molds at almost any box store.
Spend Time In or Near Water
During the heat of summer, it can be hard to spend a lot of time outside, I highly recommend splashing around in some water to help keep you cool. If you can, spend time at the beach or lake or river. If you aren’t near a natural body of water, get in a pool. If you don’t have access to a pool, get a cheap lawn sprinkler from Walmart or Target and play in the hose.
Host a Game Night
Games are a great way to enjoy time with friends all year round. If it’s nice enough, play outside, and if not, enjoy defeating your favorite people in the air conditioning.
Enjoy adding some hygge to your summer.
